Common questions answered
Can VAT on packaging or ingredients be reclaimed if I’m VAT registered in the EU?
Yes, if you purchased the items in the same country as your VAT registration, you can reclaim the VAT on your return. Ensure all invoices are kept organized for this purpose.
I use third-party fulfillment in multiple EU countries. How should I manage VAT?
You need to be VAT registered in every country where your inventory is stored. If you fulfil orders from one EU country to another where you are not registered, you will also need to enrol in the One Stop Shop (OSS).
Are cosmetics subject to different VAT treatment compared to other ecommerce products?
Generally no. Different countries may apply varying rates to specific categories. Most cosmetics fall under the standard rate, whereas dermatological or medical products may qualify for reduced rates.
When selling a kit or bundle to EU customers, which VAT rate applies?
If there is a primary item in the kit, the whole bundle adopts that product’s VAT rate. If there is no distinct main product, the total price is divided among the components, each having its respective rate applied.
